Natural Dye, Botanical Art and Paper Making Sessions

Lizzie is a natural dyer and educator who explores the connection between plants, textiles, and the places we live. She teaches natural dye workshops, botanical printing, and papermaking — all rooted in sustainable, plant-based practice.

​

Her path into natural dyeing has been shaped by many generous teachers and mentors, including Zoe Burt and Liz Spencer.

​

Much of the work begins in the garden. Lizzie grows seasonal dye plants and vegetables for food, fibre and colour, all feeding into ongoing experimentation. Through her workshops, she hopes to foster deeper relationships between materials, land and community — and to encourage people toward natural alternatives to the chemical dyes and pigments that pollute our world.

Eco & Botanical Printing

Ecoprinting is a magical process that uses the natural tannins and dyes held within a plant to create spectacular marks and prints. Using familiar local flowers and leaves, you'll make contact prints that reveal colour, texture and pattern on paper.

You'll learn how to layer plants, create a range of effects and try different methods for processing your prints. All materials provided.

Once your prints have dried at home, they're ready to frame, mount, stitch or use in collage. You'll leave with enough knowledge and confidence to continue eco printing at home and course notes will be sent afterwards to support you.

Plant Bowls & Natural Dyes

Discover how plants and kitchen waste can be transformed into objects of beauty as you make your own handmade bowl for ornamental or everyday use, incorporating other natural materials as you go.

You'll also work with plants to create natural dye colour, learning how a single plant can be modified to produce a surprising range of results.

Handmade Paper Making

Discover the ancient craft of papermaking. Using Western papermaking techniques, this three-hour workshop teaches you how to create beautiful handmade paper from cotton and other plant fibres, using sustainable methods throughout.

You'll learn to use inclusions and a range of decorative techniques, creating paper suited to bookmaking, collage or printing projects — a versatile new medium for your creative toolkit.

Looking for something a little different for a hen party, birthday or private group celebration? Lizzie offers bespoke natural art experiences, tailored to your group and the time of year. Choose one activity for a focused session, or combine two of the above sessions or from the menu below for a longer, more varied experience.

• Chlorophyll Prints — reveal hidden colour in leaves using sunlight

• Spring — fresh leaves and early blooms, perfect for delicate botanical printing

• Summer — berries and a full dye garden, ideal for anthotypes and natural dyeing with woad and madder

• Autumn — golden leaves for chlorophyll printing and plant bowls, dyeing with weld and golden rod

• Winter — fruit peel anthotypes, papermaking and botanical ink using stored materials

 

As a working garden and allotment, availability of certain activities, materials and colours depends on the season. Get in touch with your preferred date and Lizzie will help you choose the best options for that time of year.
